Last month Arizona Senator and Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl announced his retirement after holding his seat since 1995. Less than a week later, Congressman Jeff Flake announced his candidacy to succeed Kyl.
I’ve already expressed my excitement for Flake’s candidacy on Twitter. Being one of the most libertarian members of either house of Congress, I was hoping that he would consider a run for the presidency in 2012. Given the likelihood that, as it seems now, both Congressman Ron Paul and former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson will run, opting to run for the open senate seat is the more wiser of the choices. Although, I believe Flake’s libertarian-conservative credentials coupled with his charisma (the youthful look doesn’t hurt either) could have catapulted him to front runner status in no time.
But I digress; he has made his choice, and I support him 100%.
